You may have met Beatrice, Eleanor's sister vase.

With her generous rounded form and four sculptural handles, she seemed made for gathering—the sort of vessel that could receive whatever happened to come home from the garden.

And then we discovered Eleanor.

The resemblance was unmistakable. The same quiet ivory finish. Familiar rounded curves. Small handles resting at either side. But Eleanor stood a little taller, her proportions more elongated and composed.

She felt immediately like Beatrice's sister.

We chose Eleanor while preparing The Turning, our Autumn Studio Capsule, even though we had not yet created an arrangement for her. There was simply something about her form that belonged among the vessels we wanted waiting in the studio as the garden began to change.

At 9 inches tall, Eleanor offers more height than Beatrice while maintaining a beautifully restrained footprint. Her 3-inch opening naturally gathers stems together, making her particularly suited to taller grasses, branches, Delphinium, dried flowers and those wonderfully architectural botanicals that become increasingly noticeable as the growing season begins to settle.

Perhaps a few branches will be enough.

Perhaps something gathered from the drying room will finally find the vessel it has been waiting for.

We don't know yet.

And we rather like that.

Because part of living with a vase is allowing its story to change with whatever the garden happens to offer.

For now, Eleanor is waiting for her matching bouquet.
